Akwa United suffered a traffic accident this morning which injured players and officials, we learned on Friday. The tragedy indeed occurred on the Ezionye Express route in Enugu as the team was traveling to Kaduna. It is part of the 15th day of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) of Nigeria against Jigawa Golden Stars.

The bus carrying the Akwa United team thus collided with a truck. This is what the first testimonies collected from the Promise Keepers indicate .

“ We were involved in an accident. Along the Ezionye Express route, in Enugu. As we were on our way to Kaduna. For our match on matchday 15 of the NPFL, against Jigawa Golden Stars. The players and officials were injured. A player and two officials were sent to the hospital, “the statement Akwa United  after the accident.

However, the League Management Company (LMC) is yet to say whether the game will go as planned. Kennedy Boboye’s men had to do battle with Jigawa Golden Stars on Sunday at Ahmadu Bello stadium.

Akwa United is 5th in the NPFL currently dominated by Kwara United (1st, 26 points). Tied with 24 points each, Enugu Rangers, Kano Pillars and Enyimba are second, third and fourth, respectively.
