Sadio Mané, best African player in 2019
The CAF Awards ceremony is fast approaching. The Confederation of African Football must reward the best in different categories on July 21 in Morocco. The African body has also unveiled, this Monday 11, the list of finalists.
For the title of best footballer (Ballon d’Or), we find in particular three Senegalese African champions: Sadio Mané (Bayern Munich, ex Liverpool), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea), and Kalidou Koulibaly (Naples).
The list is completed by Riyad Mahrez (Algeria, Manchester City), Karl Toko Ekambi (Cameroon, Olympique Lyonnais), Vincent Aboubacar (Cameroon, Al Nasr), Sébastien Haller (Ivory Coast, Dortmund, ex-Ajax), Mohamed Salah ( Egypt, Liverpool), Naby Keita (Guinea, Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, Paris Saint-Germain).
Aliou Cisse vs Walid Regragui
If the best player at the CAF Awards will be expected, the coach of the year award also polarizes attention. Aliou Cissé, Senegalese coach, and Walid Regragui, winner of the CAF Champions League with Wydad, are the big favourites. Pitso Mosimane (ex Al Ahly), Carlos Queiroz (ex Egypt), Tom Saintfiet (Gambia) are also in the race.
